sChanges made on Monday - March 28th.
JPL: Scene: S1_Cut01_UranusFlyby: Uranus needs to be a grey blue. Looks to
similar to Neptune and it's throwing people off. See attached photos
SP: DONE
JPL: Scene : S1_Cut02A_JupiterFly , frame 111-377 too dark - difficult to see
comet against star field and planet
SP: Also, from a previous coment, I think Jupiter
needed to be a little smaller, dime sized. I am going to make the comet bigger,
as if we are closer and Jupiter smaller as if it is farther away.
JPL: Scene: S1_Cut02B_JupiterFly, throughout entire frame sequence the comet
would have a halo similar to that it S02_Cut01v2_CometClo, frame 53 - 93.
SP: Matched the volume settings exactly, but I
think you may want the coma looking bigger. Let me know
JPL: Scene: S1_Cut02C_JupiterFly: comet to shiny - lighten up up by 25%-30%.
Add some activity also.
SP: Comet diffuse level
lowered 30%. Added Coma since S1_Cut02B had it added.
SP: I made an additional change to S2_Cut01v2_CometCloseup: Since S1_Cut02B and S1_Cut02C had been changed with having a small coma, then I am starting off S2_Cut01v2_CometCloseup with more of a coma. The version you viewed on 3/28 starts with nothing for a coma.
SP: These modifications will probabl get rendered sometime through the night. My predicted schedule for and update on the web should be ny 2:00P Tuesday 3/29.
SP: Tweaks I need to make (I will add them as I get to looking into them)
Impact cones on Aerogel need to be more Carrot like on not so much like a cone.
Comments from Joe in an e-mail on 3/21 from Aimee
Joe: There is no difference in color of the solar cells next to the Solar Array
Whipple shields. We fly the mission so that we avoid shadowing of the Solar
Arrays. (0001, 0310, 1733).
SP: Understood. The reason for the apparent color change is due to Ray
Trace Reflections being turned on. The reflection color of the whipple shields
and the color of the solar array cells combines to make that color. Solution,
turn of reflections.
Joe: There is no white panel behind the spacecraft Whipple Shield. The catcher
panel is the forward bulkhead of the spacecraft and the back panel of the Whipple
Shield (the Kapton coating goes over the catcher panel and is therefore gold
too, like the Solar Array Whipple Shields in 0001 and has the same shape as
the Whipple Shield (see enclosed front view of the spacecraft in the Science
Views ppt file. (all views).
SP: I have not yet attended to this issue. I might need some clarification
Joe: The SRC sample canister cover sealing surface is flush with the sealing
surface of the heatshield (they seal simultaneously as the SRC closes - the
sample canister aluminum cover is bolted to the heatshield and the hinge on
the sample canister opens the heatshield with it, one entity)(see opening plane
in enclosed ppt charts Stardust Pictures, 3rd slide, Stardust line dwg ppt and
SRC Config ppt). (0310, 0751, 0992, 1517, 1733)
SP: Thanks for the clarifiation. Should look right now.
Joe: Image 1245 shows the SRC and arogel grid offset to the left - it is not
offset, it is on the centerline (see the -X view in the Science slides). Also,
the Dust Flux Monitor is not where image 1245 shows it (see the -X view in the
Science slides). (1245)
SP: The SRC and Collection Grid are center to the spacecraft. It may
be an optical illusion from the still photograph. We will check it to make sure.
Joe: Image 0310 shows the aerogel grid in only the first deployment step.
I would assume that this one was intended to show it fully deployed, i.e. 180
degree rotation of the hinge shown at the left of the grid in image 0310 (see
"SRC Config" picture in slide 6 and the encounter configuration).
SP: Please check the motion picture version. It makes more sense in
motion
General Notes from JPL or Aimee:
JPL: Ken Romeo has the solid model up and running. It seems like we need to
get the animator and Ken together to fix the animation problems.
SP: I need his phone and e-mail. Should I come and see him?
JPL: Straighten Uranus/Comet Flightpath
SP: It is straight, just an optical illusion with the combined motion
of the camera and comet. We have redone the camera move to eliminate the illusion.
JPL: Light up jupiter 60% more and continue to show coma growing
SP: Check the latest update at www.starlight-prod.com. The file is called
Stardust2006.avi
JPL: J8-1 Grid should open slower
SP: Will do.
JPL: Open Grid
SP: Will do
JPL: Light Specks on Grid
SP: Will do
JPL: Composite grid with Aerogel
SP: Will do
JPL: Aerogel more baby blue
SP: Will do
JPL: Uranus Fly-by:- a little dark Increased Global Brightness by 15% (3/21/05)
re-rendered
SP: Done
JPL: - not sure what occurs @ closes encounter of Jupiter
SP: New version as of 3/21/05 PM
JPL: - view from top of comet doesn't work well. Planet and comet coming close
should be shown from distance and not so close.
- What's glowing thing is foreground?
SP: Redone
JPL: Title shot:- too long of sequence
SP: Can be edited for timing. One thing to keep in mind is
all footage is about 5-10% over-rendered for the sense of timing and trimming.
JPL: Comet Dezoo:- Where is script does this sequence fall?
SP: Referring to new storyboard
JPL: - Comet out-gassing is stationary and should be bubbling all the time
and in motion.
SP: Redone
JPL: - The out-gassing is on the wrong side and should be on the sunwardside
(which is the left side as the
s/c flew past). Frame 47 is example of what I was looking at
JPL: - Stardust images show 5-6 active jets at closes approach
SP: Got it
JPL - Not sure what your trying to show in frames 600-850
SP: Not sure what this is about, but will go away as a problem
JPL: - Comet is too smooth and almost looks to fake.
SP: Replaced with permanent model, just had the wrong model loaded
JPL: - Comet is much different in shape, color, texture than comet in Uranus
sequence.
SP: Same thing as above, just needed to replace the model
JPL: - In frames 10-600 comet should always have a halo/glow like it does is
frame 587. Glow should fill screen when viewing close up.
SP: Alright should be taken care of
S3-Cut01 "rocket up close"- didn't render - can't see anything
SP: Still in progress
S3_cut02 "Launch"- shows particle launch after it leaves the ground
and not before
SP: Still in progress
